The first week in February and Kelly is still making progress. They have started using a walking cane that has four tips in Physical Therapy so hopefully Kelly will be graduating from the walker to the cane soon. They have also given her a folder with workouts she can do at home on the days she doesn’t have therapy. A recommendation was made for Kelly to start working on some puzzles at home to work on her concentration so we have started a 500 piece puzzle that is trying BOTH of us. It has intrigued Zach however, so he has started working on a 25 piece puzzle of his own. The improvement we have seen is amazing and I’m so thankful for all the blessings that God has bestowed upon our family. Thank you God!!! God bless and we hope every one has a great week.
The last day of January and things are getting better every day. I was reading the posts on my last update, which I again have to apologize for the time in between updates, and there was one about Kelly’s Physical Therapy. The therapy is going well and Kelly is getting stronger. She still is using the walker but her right side is getting more movement and getting stronger. Kelly’s Occupational Therapy is also going well with Kelly being able to get more range of motion in her right arm. Every time we see some one who has not seen Kelly since she was in ICU either at Northwest Texas Hospital or Zale Lipshy Hospital, they comment on how amazed they are at Kelly’s improvement and the miracle that God has blessed us with. Thank you God!!! Kelly’s vision in her right eye is still blurry but according to Kelly’s Eye Doctor, he has had patients whom have had the same surgery as Kelly and have gone to bed with blurry vision and then woke up with almost clear vision. The doctor said that they can’t explain it but that the eye just waits until it’s ready before getting rid of enough blood to allow normal vision to return. He does not seem concerned about Kelly’s vision and anticipates a lot of improvement very soon.
This weekend we are snowed in with about 12″ of snow on the ground so we are catching upon some old movies and working on Kelly’s homework therapy by playing some Wii games and Brain Games on the computer.
2010 has started a new and greater beginning for our family but we will always remember the “highs and lows” that God has seen us through. There is a saying that we “pray to God when times are bad and we praise God when times are good”. I have to admit, I have been praying and praising God more than I have for my entire life. Maybe one of the messages God was sending me was that I need to rely on Him, no matter what is going on in our lives. Thank you for your support and prayers. God bless!!
Again, time has flown by and I have been unable to update the blog but please understand that we still appreciate all who check the blog, along with the thoughts and the prayers.
We have just returned from Dallas for Kelly’s follow up visit to the doctors there. The day started yesterday with an MRA and then an arteriogram so the doctors could check on the anuerysm and it’s progress. I have been praying that God cure Kelly’s aneurysm and once again God has shown how He still performs miracles. After both exams, which lasted most of the day, Dr. Pride informed us that Kelly’s aneurysm is GONE!!! He said it was completely occluded and that everything looked great. Thank you God!!!! They still want to keep an eye on the aneurysm but said that they might be able to just check it with an MRI every 6 months at first and then go to a yearly MRI until they feel they do not need to check any more. The doctor said that after a year after the coiling with no change, that the chance of the aneurysm coming back or rebleeding was so minimal that he could not even give us a percentage because it was so low. Again, God has touched my beautiful wife and the wonderful doctors who have helped her to remind me of how the power of prayer works.
Tomorrow we go back to the Retina Specialist to check on the progress of Kelly’s eye. Kelly is still going to therapy 3 times a week and getting stronger with every session.
Thank you again for the thoughts and prayers. Thank you God and God bless!!!
It is Sunday, the day of rest and that is what Kelly is doing today. Therapy and the home health care lady are working out pretty well. Kelly is still making improvements and her just being home makes the biggest difference in her improvement. We get to spend time at home with Zach and that in itself is the best therapy Kelly is getting. The therapists doing Kelly’s outpatient therapy are great and usually wear her out by the time therapy is over. I can tell Kelly’s core strength is improving and she able to do more and more by herself. The therapist told her that she needs to be like a 2 year old and have the mindset that she has to do more for herself without help. With Kelly on one side and Zach on the other side, I get a lot of “I can do it by myself” answers and looks when I try to help too much. With it being Sunday, we will be getting some rest but we will also be praising and thanking God for all the blessings He has given our family. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. God bless.
Kelly is adjusting to being home and to the outpatient therapy. Kelly’s home care lady is very nice and she has already been to therapy with Kelly so she can work with Kelly at home on some exercises. We visited Kelly’s primary physician today for a check-up and he said everything looks good. Kelly also got her AFO today and you can tell the improvement in her standing and walking. It is amazing how many people will come up to us to and tell us that they have heard of Kelly from all of the amazing people who have put her on their church’s prayer list or by word of mouth. Christi sent me an email about how God sometimes uses “normal” people as angels and I have truly seen the this up close and personal. Thank you to all the “angels” and thank you God!!
Happy New Year and God bless.
Our first day of outpatient therapy and it went well. We met the Physical and Occupational Therapists who will be working with Kelly and they both got right to work. They started working on Kelly’s core strength and did some evaluations to see what Kelly needs to work on. Kelly will be going to therapy 3 times a week and since this is a short work week, she goes to therapy again tomorrow. We have also hired a service who will send somebody to stay with Kelly during the day starting next Monday when I return to work. I have been at home with her since she was discharged from Northwest Rehab and it will be hard to leave her with somebody else but I am hopeful that the adjustment will be a smooth one. Kelly is getting stronger and more independent on the the things she can do for herself so we are praying that the need for the service will be a short one.
Kelly also got measured for an AFO (Ankle-Foot Orthotic) today which will help her walk and stand until her right foot gets stronger.
Tomorrow night is New Year’s Eve and we will begin a new year at home, praying that God continues to bless our family. June 12, 2009 changed our family and was the worst day of my life so I don’t mind saying that I am looking forward to the beginning of a new year.
Happy New Year and may God bless each and every one!!!
I am sorry about not updating the blog but with Christmas, New Years and everything else going on, I just now got a minute to update. Where do I begin?
Kelly has been discharged and is home. She has been home for about a week and the decision was made for Kelly to just have a walker at home. The walker gives her a chance to get stronger and do some therapy at home before she begins her outpatient therapy on 12-30-09. It has been a long road but Kelly is improving daily and getting stronger. It was a great Christmas and I received the best gift I have ever received, God gave me my beautiful wife back.
We just returned from an appointment with Kelly’s eye doctor and he said everything looks good even though it will take some time for Kelly’s eye sight to return to normal. Our New Year begins with some doctors appointments in the first month but I know that God will answer our prayers and give us some great results on the exams.
Happy New Year and God bless.
What a week and a half it has been. With Christmas, New Years and everything else going on, I haven’t kept up with the blog and I apologize. Where do I begin? Kelly has been discharged from rehab and is home. She begins her outpatient therapy on 12-30-09 and we just made a visit to Kelly’s eye doctor today. The doctor said that the eye is improving but it will take some time before Kelly’s eye sight will be back to normal.
Kelly has been home for about a week now. The decision was made that no wheelchair would be sent home with her so that she could get more exercise and therapy with just her walker. She is doing great and on Wednesday, she gets measured for her orthotic to help her with her right foot when she walks. It has been a long road, but Kelly is still working hard and improving daily. We have 3 doctors appointments in the first month of next year and I know that all of our prayers will be answered when we get the results of all the exams.
I have already received the best Christmas gift I have ever received by God giving me my beautiful wife back and now we are ready to begin the next New Year together. A new year of many more to come.
Happy New Year and God bless.
It has been a busy week with me back at work and Kelly doing her therapy but I finally got a chance to update the blog. Kelly is doing well and the therapy sessions that they have scheduled for her are not enough for “our girl”. Today she was asking for extra sessions so she can get stronger, she is unbelieveable. Thank you God for tenacity. The discharge date should be soon according to Kelly’s case manager and what a Christmas gift that will be.
The Retina Specialist appointment went well with Kelly’s eye healing properly and he will check her eye again in two weeks to make sure the vision is clearing even more.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Merry Christmas and God bless.
The end of our first full weekend back in Amarillo. We celebrated Kelly’s Birthday and she spent the day with family and friends while opening up her presents. She kept telling us that she didn’t want any birthday presents but what she didn’t realize is that it was a joy to be able to buy her a present and celebrate another birthday with her, one of many more to come.
Kelly is making improvements in her therapy and getting stronger. She had to go to her therapy sessions even on her birhday but she did everybody proud. She was able to walk with the therapist walking beside her, holding Kelly’s hand. Kelly also did the arm bike and I can tell she is getting more confident in what she can do the stronger she gets.
Tomorrow starts her second week here and will have her follow up check up on her eye surgery with a Retina Specialist here at home.
Congratulations to the winners in drawing on Kelly’s birthday and thank you everybody for the tremendous support. May God bless every one of you. Our family is truly blessed, thank you God!!
Merry Christmas!!
